Considering its importance, thankfully, self-awareness is a skill you can develop. We've shared a guide to help you understand what being self-aware is all about.

Why Is Self-Awareness So Important?

Every decision we make while out for a ride on our motorcycle is a reflection of our self-awareness. If we aren't "tuned in" when we are riding we won't have the ability to react accordingly. It’s important to take time to reflect on decisions or reactions we've made (particularly the bad ones), so we learn from them and avoid issues moving forward.

    Self-Awareness Isn’t Just Internal

Having self-awareness doesn’t just mean that you understand what’s going on internally but also can reflect on what's happening in the external context of your decisions. Part of understanding the external context is being able to see where you are on the motorcycle spectrum in terms of skill resulting in being able to determine where you can get better.

    Honesty is the Best Policy

The key to being self-aware is being honest with yourself. A motorcycle is a dangerous piece of equipment, so, it's important that you know what your skill level is in order to keep yourself safe. When it comes to riding, having self-awareness means you can acknowledge what your weaknesses are and make appropriate judgements.

We hope this has provided some clarity on the importance of self-awareness and how it can help you stay safe while you ride.
